Three Weeks and Counting -
It's been three weeks now and I'm proud to report that Tristan is doing great. We have had our first experience with a little diaper rash, but with the great products on the market like Boudreaux's Butt Paste and Rear Smear we have managed to get his little booty back to square one. This "word fun" makes me want to start a baby wipes company called Ass Wipes!
One thing that I have to say about my son, is that he takes after his father . . . and he pees. He pees in the bath, on himself, while you are changing him and on your shirt. We have had some successful naked time, where we just let him hang out in his birthday suit and let his skin get a little air. He is also very fond of tummy time and is more than happy to lay on daddy's chest skin to skin . . . with the diaper on OF COURSE!
Our good intentions of helping the environment by using cloth diapers continues. There have been advancements in the diaper technology of yesteryear. Today they have these nifty clip strap grabby things that you use to hold the diaper together. No more safety pins that just might puncture your baby. The diapers also come with these cool covers that keep the cloth diaper together and next to the baby. There is minor leakage and when you have everything on correctly there is almost no leakage. When the cover is on, it looks like you have your baby in an Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt custom Velcro disposable. Sometimes in the middle of the night, when we are tired we resort to the quickie disposable diaper. Sometimes it's just easier to be out with the old and in with the new.
Sleeping has become a bit of a chore, although better than some. We have an antique cradle at the foot of our bed that Tristan spends about 75% of the time in. The rest of the time he is either sleeping in his vibrating chair or in someone's arms. Amber and I both agreed that Mommy and Daddy's bed is not Babies bed so there are only a few choice moments when Tristan gets to sleep in the big people bed.
I have to admit that sometimes I feel kind of helpless when Tristan is upset. Most of the time he's hungry, but he also gets fussy when he is gassy. I try to help out as much as possible and sometimes getting up in the middle of the night and putting him in my arms and trying to rock him to sleep gives Amber a little break. I also really enjoy those moments. Usually the house is really quiet and the world seems like it's in slow motion. I don't have to worry about work and can just focus on helping to calm Tristan down. It's very hard to believe that one day this tiny baby is going to walk out of my house a man. There's only so much a daddy can do, so I try to change the diaper when needed and extend an extra hand to the chores. I've always been the cook of the family only because I don't want cereal or PBJ's for dinner, so I cover that aspect of the household and I continue to encourage Amber and let he know that she's doing a great mommy job!
Tristan really enjoys a steady pat on the lower back either cradled in your arms or up against your chest. He also likes to be jostled a little. When he's on the verge of sleep he really enjoys the patting and a kind of shaky bounce motion. I've noticed that if you have him in your arms and are kind of busy around the house and you're bending over and picking things up and he's getting wiggled around, he will fall asleep pretty quickly. Just when you think he's going to freak out because you aren't paying attention to him, you'll look down and he will be sound asleep.
So Friday is my birthday and I'm turning 35. Wow, I guess I've passed most of the life hurdles. 18, 21, 25, getting married, buying a house, landing a great job and starting a family. I guess the big Four-O and the inevitable sixty five are the only notches in the gun stock of life. . . I'm sure there are many more. The other day my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday and for the first time in my life, I really had to think about it because I couldn't ask for anything more than a healthy baby and wonderful life and an amazing loving wife and mother to spend it with.
but then again I couldn't resist the 300 GB internal hardrive for sale at Comp USA
Hope all is well with everyone. . . .check back after the 29th. . . . 1 Month!
