Let's Eat and Shoot a Cross Bow!

It's just easier sometimes to combine the activities of a few weeks and this post is no exception to that rule. So, let's get started.

The other day we started Tristan on cereal. It's the first step toward real people foods. We started with an organic rice cereal mixed with breast milk and of course we had to get a few photos to document the experience. I think that Tristan enjoys having something a little more substantial in his tummy and he's even getting an opportunity to have a little meal while he's at daycare. The other day Tristan's teacher, Mrs. Dawn, said that Tristan really gets frustrated with being a baby around the other kids that he hangs with at daycare. Mrs. Dawn said that his immobility is frustrating for him and he gets ticked off when the other kids move away from where he is. So Tristan just let's out a quick yell and all the kids come running back around him. He also gets frustrated when he's outside and the other kids are walking around in the grass and he is stuck in the stroller. His teachers have to get him out and put him near the other kids and then he's content. I think that this pre-socialization is good for him and I'm glad that he's being challenged at school. I think that he's going to be an instigator.

So on to target practice. But first let me explain why Grandma has a giant splint on her left leg. Well Grandma loves Grandpa and Grandpa loves hunting. So Grandma (Amber's Mom, Vicki) and Grandpa (Lenny) when to the hunting camp last week. While Vicki was getting the gear into the tree stand deer blind, she slipped on the ladder and to make a long story short . . . She tore her ACL and MCL. But the truly amazing thing is that she managed to climb up the ladder again and sit there for at least 4 hours. . . WITH A TORN ACL/MCL . . . I don't think there is a professional athlete that could do that. Then it was later that day that Vicki couldn't get comfortable in bed while trying to take a nap . . . Maybe because all the muscles that hold your knee together were torn? So she headed to the hospital only to find out what kind of damage she did.

So this weekend we, the family, took off to go see Grandma and Grandpa and take them some food and check on Vicki's progress. Needless to say she is still partially immobile, but if you know Vicki there's not much that slows her down even in the wake of major damage to your lower extremities. After catching up and having a quick bite to eat, Lenny produced his new hunting crossbow. This sparked some interest in taking it outside for a little target practice. After Amber and I had a turn, Vicki hobbled out to show us her skills with the cross bow. I know that this part of the post doesn't have anything to do with the development of Tristan, but I had to show off the LaBrecquian marksmanship skills.
