365 Days and Counting -

So Sunday April 29th 2007 we celebrated Tristan’s birthday. The party really started about a week ago when Amber ordered all the frog decorations and party favors, but the operation wasn’t actually kicked off until 2:00 Sunday afternoon.

Amber and I started Friday night cooking cakes and coming up with the engineering of the frog cake and the mini frog cake for Tristan. Amber iced the mini cake while I rolled dough and made frog shaped sugar cookies. It was definitely a fun time in the kitchen. You know Amber doesn’t do much in that space unless there is flour, sugar and eggs involved.

The Masons come from Houston late Friday night to spend the weekend with us and help celebrate Tristan’s birthday. They certainly helped out in a pinch with last minute PB&J’s and cutting carrots and celery for the pasta salad.

Saturday we all went to a nice lunch at Waterloo then the boys broke off with the kiddo’s and did some shopping while the girls got last minute decorations for the tables. Saturday night we headed out to The Salt Lick for Andrew’s 7th birthday. Andrew has been creatively begging me to get him a drum set for his birthday. While he was gone for his friend’s party, Marney and I set up my secondary kit in the living room. At The Salt Lick, I gave him a pair of brand new drumsticks and kept him guessing all the way home. Now all he has to do is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

It was a pretty easy transition into the party on Sunday, everyone had on a nice outfit, even Tristan. We started with the meet and greet along with finger foods and then moved on to cake and ice cream. After a good cleaning from Mom we moved on to presents in the family room. We want to thank everyone that made it to the party and for all the nice presents that you got for Tristan. My mother, who is always thinking of creative presents, got Tristan a really cool Frog top trash can for his room and inside was the text book sock monkey that ever child is issued by the federal government. Of course when I was young I never had one until I was maybe 16 and Santa brought me one for Christmas. This was also right about the time that he started bringing me BRIO trains sets . . . . that was also a standard US baby boomer child issued toy. So my mom put the paper work though with the correct city officials and managed to procure a brand new sock monkey so that Tristan would have one to play with in his formative years. . . . So thanks Mom for thinking outside the BOX!
