Everybody's Working for the Weekend!-

I certainly was looking forward to last weekend. I've been busy at work, searching for robot dealers, find people to buy fiber optic cable and selling obsolete grease out of Beaumont, Texas. To tell you the truth it wasn't that bad. It's much better to be busy than not. At least the days go by faster.

The weekend started with Tristan's two month appointment at the Austin Area Birthing Center on Friday. Amber ran solo on this appointment, as I stayed home and kept after the house and work. Tristan is now up to 10 pounds and a few ounces (I can't remember for sure, and when Amber reads this she will tell me). He's healthy and going strong without anything to really note. This week we need to make a few more appointments with some local pediatricians. This has been one of my least favorite tasks. Moving away from the Midwifery philosophy and back into mainstream medicine is kind of tough. I don't want to give the wrong impression, because I believe in modern medicine, it's just that the offices run differently and the bedside manor is not the same. Amber and I did interview a couple of doctors before Tristan was born, but there are a couple that we want to check out before we make our decision. I want it to be good for both us and Tristan.

Friday night we spent with our good friend Megan. Megan and Amber used to work together a while ago and we hadn't seen Megan for a while so we thought it would be a great time to get together. Megan arrived around 7:00 and then it was Watermelon Martinis, Chinese food and good times. Megan is doing well at her new architect firm and hopefully will come out to see A Band Named Sue, next time we play at the Mean Eyed Cat.

Saturday . . . hmmmm where do I start. I saw the advertisements for the Animal Planet Expo out at Old Steller's Park in Round Rock. I thought that it would be something really fun to go see and take Nicole and her kids. I knew that Tristan and Kael might not get the most out of it, but it would be a fun outing none the less. Well . . . . lets just say that who ever came up with the master plan for the Animal Expo, never considered the Texas heat. Don't ever put something out in the middle of a field between 11:00 and 4:00 p.m. unless it involves Mac Brown and the Texas Longhorns. The Expo was a dissappointment to say the least. I was glad that we didn't pay any money to be there, because there wasn't really anything to see and if you wanted to take part in some activity, the lines were very long and the kids faces were even longer. I knew when Damek said that he wanted to go home and we hadn't been there for more than 5 minutes, it was going to be a long day. Then on top of everything the concession folks ran out of water! IN TEXAS . . . hello! Water is life . . . it's like a million degrees. Thanks to the local fire department that was giving out free water.

We returned home only to find that the 30 minute car ride had induced a sleepy trance on all the kids. I'm sure the heat helped a little too. It was nice to put the kids down for a few hours and have some down time and enjoy a nice lazy afternoon.

After the kids started to stir, we decided to get into the pool and cool off. The pool is up to about 90 degrees and since it's expected to be in the 100's today, I'm sure it will be even warmer. It sounds really hot, but it's still refreshing. All the kids including Nicole, Amber and me enjoyed our time in the pool and I think that we are going to be spending a lot more time out there this summer.

We took Tristan for his first swim and he really enjoyed it. With the water being so warm, it was almost like a bath. He only fussed a little until he got used to the water then he just had this really peaceful look on his face. He just floated in the water and enjoyed the warm air. We shielded him from the sun with our bodies, but on Sunday I rigged up an outdoor umbrella to shade almost half the pool.

Kid rearing is still coming along smoothly and Amber and I are thinking about starting a schedule of bath time, reading and bedtime for Tristan next week. They say it doesn't mater if your baby gets up 5 more times, but putting together some type of system can help establish the routine. We will see how it goes.
