Free Time Is Hard To Find (Make?)-
So many things have happened in the last few days. . . I'm not really sure where to start . . . so as Julie Andrews said in The Sound of Music . . .start at the very beginning. (Corresponding photos below)
We had Halloween less than two months ago and I know that some of you out there expected a blog entry much sooner, but with all that has been going on in our lives, I just didn't make time. This year we had three Halloween celebrations, one for the adults and two for the kids. Every year our friends Diane and Ammi Diaz throw a big All hallows Eve celebration and each year we are invited, but we hadn't been in a long time. This year we were able to make it. After much deliberation Amber and I decided to go as the Spartan Cheerleaders from Saturday Night Live. Cheers were requested, but we didn't have a chance to learn any by the time we made it to the party. We had a good time and I think that their house was decorated as much for Halloween as ours is at Christmas. The second celebration was with the Walkers. Now Paul and Jen live out by Lake Travis and in a rather hilly neighborhood. So the parents get together with their farm/ranch trailers and meet at the local park. They fill the trailers and then take all the kids Trick or Treating so they don't have to walk. This might sound lame to you, but you would welcome this if you lived in their neighborhood. The nice thing is that there are three waves (trailers) of kids that come to the door. And when I say waves, I'm talking like 20 - 30 kids at a time. At the end of the third wave your done. It's kind of nice. Lastly on Halloween we went to my sisters house and Trick or Treated with her kids and their little friends. This is the best kind of Treating. Kids in costume getting candy, parents walking around the neighborhood with cocktails in tow.
Amber and I bought a new HOUSE! Yes that is correct, I'm sure that many of you have seen the circulating e-mail notification of our new address. (Please e-mail me if you have not received). We closed on our old house about a week ago and are now out of the confines of three bedrooms and two bathrooms and have moved to two stories, 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. . . a lot of house to clean . . .but then again a lot of house to grow into. We have slowly been putting things away, but it's difficult because there are so many things that we want to build, like desks for the office and cabinets for other rooms. Many of our possessions will stay in boxes until we get a chance to put them in their place. This new space might also require more furniture. As we clear up space we realize that an empty room is not as attractive as one that might be full of stuff. We will keep working at it. Just as a side note, we will be having a "Party" in April to display the house and to celebrate Amber's 30th birthday (again - since she couldn't rightfully celebrate last year, being about to give birth and all.) . .Announcements will be made closer to the actual event.
These last few months have not been all fun and new houses, as I lost my Grandmother in early November. We had a very beautiful service for her that was capped off with a balloon release that was far more emotional than anyone expected. As we move into the holiday season, she will be missed more than ever. It had not been easy for her to get around in the last few years of her life, but those Thanksgiving and Christmas phone calls were always important. It's never easy when you loose a loved one and it was shocking and peaceful to hear the news. She is in a much better place and is free of this life and has moved on to a much better one.
TRISTAN TRISTAN TRISTAN!
Back on the positive tip! Tristan is doing great . . .we have TEETH and they are getting just a little bit more pronounced everyday. He is now 7 months old and a rolling machine. He hasn't quite grasped the concept of crawling, but he is constantly engaged in mobility by scooting and rolling. He can roll all over the family room and he can even manage to bonk his head on the TV cabinet or the coffee table. The glider is always a subject of much interest, but we have to be careful to not get those little hands and feet caught between the rails. He's eating baby food now and has a regular dose of foods at 11:00 and 6:00. He's a great eater and has a lot of fun with his teething biscuits that are so good he just has to get them all over himself. I expect him to start crawling in the new year, but right now it's nice that he is still somewhat contained.
I hope all is well with your families as we move into the Holiday season. This is one of my favorite times of the year, cold weather, good times, good friends and family fun.
