Everything is Coming Up Roseola!

I wanted to put this post up for all those first time parents our there.

About 5 days ago Tristan started to get a fever that co-inside with this wonderful weather that we have been having lately. His fever peaked around 103, but we were able to get it to drop pretty significantly with lukewarm baths and stripping him down to his diaper. He stayed coherent and in relatively good spirits, so from all the data that I read on the Internet about high fevers, I wasn't too worried. The last thing you want to do when the roads are iced over, is take your kid to the emergency room.

So yesterday, late in the afternoon, we noticed that he started to get a rash on his tummy. We have been suspicious of the finger food star puffs lately because when he eats them his face breaks out, but this was something a little different.

I thought that he might have the Chicken Pox, but couldn't think of where he might have picked them up, other than day care. I called my sister, who is a teacher at his pre-school/day-care and she said that there were some cases in her class of Chicken Pox. I explained his symptoms and she thought that it might be Roseola. After some Internet investigation we are quite convinced that this is what he has. I have a dr.'s appointment later this afternoon, but little Tristan has all the telltale signs of this viral infections.

I wanted to post these pictures because if your child ever gets this, you will be prepared for it. He continues to be in good spirits and is only cranky when his fever is high. We have been encouraging fluids like watered down juices and pedialyte and he has continued to eat and nurse. I was pretty surprised when I saw him this morning! I'll put up another post after the appointment this afternoon.
